A report of a friend who participated in the Trek

 

Friends -
as many of you know, about 18 months ago I participated in a "charitable trek" in the mountains of Nepal...the trek was organized by my good friend Kira Kay who is also the founder of an organization in Nepal called Hands with Hands (www.handswithhands.org).
While young, the organization has been impactful and is responsible for a number of wonderful initiatives in Nepal - on this trek we visited both self-sustaining orphanages that they have set up as well as rural villages where microfinance projects are well underway.
I found Nepal to be a majestic place on many levels and my overall experience there was deeply profound, moving, and inspirational. I had never been so close to such abject levels of poverty - meeting people who lived in such basic ways and feeling their joy for life was truly life-changing.
