Who are We?
The HandswithHands initiative has emerged from the collaboration of several friends, primarily Kira Kay, and Dipendra KC., and more recently, Rafael Ebner, Coen Völker, Egon Castlunger and Claudia van Acken.
- Since July 2007 we have a simple Not-for-Profit Organisation, based in Vienna, Austria, formed with a minimum of administration and accounting as required to satisfy standards for International Not For Profit Organisation (INGO) standards.
- A registered NGO partner in Nepal also named HandswithHands that administers the various projects on the ground in Nepal.
- Since Feb 2009 a simple Not-for-Profit Organisation in Netherlands.
- During 2009 there will be sister INGOs set up, Germany and Switzerland to facilitate donations and communication.
HandswithHands is run entirely by volunteered time and resources. Read this and more about us.
What we do?
Our projects primarily are with children and women. We have now four children homes and an expanding outreach program to support rural women in their own businesses. Where possible we encourage and support sustainable and eco-friendly approaches.
We have Nepali volunteers regularly attending the projects plus we make regular visits to the projects ourselves to monitor developments and operations. We also facilitate a volunteer program for people to go to Nepal and volunteer directly and children homes, schools, medical facilities and more. www.handswithhands.org
What can you do?
With 400 Euro per year you can become the sponsor of a child who is attending school. With 200 Euro per year you can become a sponsor of a child below school age.
How does your sponsorship support the child?
The sponsorship gives the child the chance to get the higher level of school education that is available in Nepal. This gives them a better grounding in English and the main subjects required for college and further education - and a real chance to pass the *Iron Gate* SLC exams. We consider education as a main priority to create long-term options for the future of the children.
The sponsorship covers the cost of the school fees, school uniforms, books, pens, school outings, incidental costs, lunches. It will also cover one full medical check up per year and one set of casual clothes. For the ‘babies’ and pre-school children the sponsorship covers pre-school (baby school) and extras such as nappies and additional medical support as required.
It also gives you and the child a gift of connection – you can write directly to the child and she/he can feel the support directly. The older children are able to correspond back by letters. This gives you the opportunity to really experience the difference you can make by helping one person. It also gives the child the opportunity to have a friend who cares about their future and well-being.
